Recently I was asked what made me choose to paint beautiful (and exotic?) women. For a number of years I worked with severely traumatised women. I can't put into words how deeply they moved, challenged and changed me, instead I paint them in as many different ways as I am able. I don't have them sitting in front of me posing, they bloom in my imagination like flowers, and are composites of the beauty I saw - rare, exotic, multi-layered ... sophisticated, rebellious, glamorous, fragile, soft or a mix of any and all of these, but what they are to me, is emblematic of women who survive, and with the right support and encouragement – thrive.

For the rest, I have been drawing with ink on paper since very young and though I have always been seduced by colour, I return again and again to the black and white of ink for its discipline and demands. Because my ink work is so detailed I foresee the day when I will not be able to draw in that way any longer, so for now I'll keep doing what I can as the ideas flow. Digital art allows me to paint in all the ways I would have physically but with far greater freedom and no wasted canvas/expensive paper when things don't go well. :)
